Moonee Valley Libraries welcomes recommendations for our collection.

Before you recommend an item, please read our guidelines below.

1. Check the Moonee Valley Libraries catalogue

Visit our catalogue and search for the item. You can search by title or author or a combination of both.

If you find the item in our catalogue, click the 'place hold' button.

If you don’t find the item, proceed to step 2.

2. Read our recommendation guidelines

Purchase decisions are based on our specialised subject knowledge, relevance to our community, and probability of future use within our service.

We cannot purchase textbooks, inappropriate formats like spiral binding, unclassified films, or items prohibited by law.

Our purchasing criteria include:

  • Items published in the last two years.
  • Items up to the value of $50 for fiction and $75 for non-fiction.
  • Items in print and readily available from our library suppliers.
  • Age and currency of information.
  • High quality publications.

If the item is more than two years old, please visit our Inter-library Loans page as we may be able to obtain it through our Inter-library Loan service.

Please note: New releases are added to our collection automatically at the time of publication. Please do not place a recommendation for an item that has not yet been published. Check our catalogue close to the publication date to place your hold.

3. Submit a recommendation

Once you have completed the above steps, you can submit your recommendation by logging in below.

What happens next?

We receive a high volume of requests and as such, we will review your request within six weeks after submission.

Most recommended purchases arrive within three months, but some may take longer, depending on availability from suppliers.

To access responses from our collections team, log into your library account and check your requests tab.

If a recommended item is selected for purchase, a reservation will be placed for you, and you will be notified when the item is available for you to collect from your chosen library.

If a recommended item is not selected for purchase, a message will be added to your requests list in your library account.
